Woman hit, killed by car while walking her dog in Woodbridge

WOODBRIDGE, Va. (DC News Now) -- Police in Prince William County are investigating after a pedestrian was killed in a collision while walking her dog Thursday morning.
Shortly after 6:30 a.m., officers responded to the area of Mapledale Drive near Miles Court to investigate the crash.
Investigators found a 30-year-old Woodbridge man was driving a Nissan Versa on Mapledale Drive, approaching the intersection when he left the roadway. He drove onto the sidewalk and hit 57-year-old Maria Isabel Cardozo, who was walking her dog.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man driving stayed at the scene and was not hurt, police noted. They determined alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the crash.
Cardozo's dog was later found near her home and was not hurt.
Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
