QUONSET, R.I. (WLNE) — The Quonset Development Corporation said said that federal, state, and local leaders gathered Thursday to mark the reopening of the Port of Davisville’s Pier 1 South. Over the course of 19 months the pier was refurbished with 150 new steel pilings and a new concrete deck. The corporation added that the port is one of the top 10 auto importers in North America and is an “emerging hub” for offshore wind. The reconstruction was funded in part by an $11.14 million Port Infrastructure Development Program grant from the U.S. Maritime Administration. The corporation said that the North and East Faces of the pier are still under reconstruction, as the project is in phases. Categories: News, Rhode Island
