PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — When people donate blood to the Rhode Island Blood Center (RIBC) between Oct. 20-27, they'll also be donating to the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RISPCA). RIBC said it will donate $1 to the RISPCA for every person who donates blood during that time period. “Please know that each blood donation is not only saving human lives, it will also support our lifesaving work for animals," said RISPCA's Stephanie Van Patten. The country's blood supply is also still feeling the impacts of Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton. The RIBC said it has been called upon to help support the nation's blood supply while also struggling to meet local needs. “By coming in to donate, you will help RIBC be in a position to better support our localcommunity and national partners should another unexpected event occur,” RIBC's CaitlinGrimaldi-Flick said. “Donating blood is the perfect opportunity to help our neighbors down the street and nationally." Blood donors can give every 56 days and platelet donors can give twice per month. You can view current eligibility guidelines and make an appointment by clicking here or by calling (401) 453-8383.
