KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- After waking up to shattered glass at their storefronts, business owners and managers in the River Market area are picking up the pieces on Thursday. Kansas City police are investigating five incidents that happened overnight that are possibly related. FOX4 is told someone broke into three businesses, including Freestyle Poke. "There was glass everywhere outside, inside, it was scattered across tables in there, chairs, it was a disaster," said Manager Camryn Tomlinson. She said thieves broke in overnight and took the cash drawer, It had $200 inside. James Beard lives in the area and snapped some photos of the damage. I was pretty shocked," Tomlinson said. "But I mean, it just happened down the street at Betty Rae's, but I guess expected." Two city market businesses were also hit overnight. You can see shattered glass at Bo's Kitchen. The owner of Brown and Loe said criminals also broke into their restaurant at about 4 a.m. Thursday. She tells FOX4 the suspects didn't get away with anything. Closer to the Crossroads, another boarded up door near 17th and Wyandotte at Oak and Steele. The manager tells FOX4 just after 4 a.m. Thursday, thieves stole a cash drawer, which held about $350. "I see a lot of break-ins, I fix a lot of glass. It's something that's constant, every week, ain't a week go by that I'm not replacing glass," said Marteau Brown. Brown installs glass across the Kansas City metro. He said the majority of calls, replacing windows due to the aftermath of commercial break-ins. Brown said he runs three to four replacements a day. Police say someone called 911 just after 1 a.m. Thursday, near 4th and Wyandotte. A person working security in the area was patrolling parking lots when he saw a vehicle. "Everyone has their reasons but breaking into family owned businesses is, we're supposed to be a community, you know," Tomlinson said. Police says there were five business break-ins in the River Market and downtown area. Detectives are working to determine if the five burglaries are related.
