FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – When Redemption house Fort Wayne first opened in 2012, a generous Fort Wayne art collector donated his collection to the ministry with the hopes it could help the ladies who they serve. Organizers said they were overwhelmed with the sheer amount of art they received and stuck them in storage and forgot about them. It wasn't until this spring when they were hosting a garage sale, and a local organization donated some artwork, that they remembered all the pieces they still had put up from years ago. After taking them to get appraised, nothing could've prepared them to discover the quality of artwork they had possessed for so long. "We didn't know what we had, and so we contacted an appraiser in Indianapolis, and they authenticated them for us. these are signed and dated lithographs from these artists. so that means that when they created their original work and realized the popularity of it, they themselves made copies of it," said Connie Minier, Director of Communications for Redemption House. The collection includes four signed and numbered Salvador Dali lithographs, eight signed and numbered Pablo Picasso lithographs, two limited-edition posters by Helen Frankenthaler, and other notable works. Lithograph signed by Pablo Picasso All together everything is valued at more than 90 thousand dollars. Redemption House is a network of transition homes that help women who are battling addiction rebuild their lives. The organization has played a pivotal role in helping hundreds of women overcome addiction and begin the road to recovery. "...all of our ladies are here through the court system for a six-month program where they work on recovery, they work on getting jobs, healing from trauma, and building their faith and it's a wonderful program where we see women just grow and blossom and get themselves ready to go back to their families, or back out into the workforce." All proceeds from the auction will go to benefit the ladies. Bidding starts online Friday at noon and running until 7:00 pm on October 26th. Click here to access the link.
