(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) arrested a man after he was caught in a stolen vehicle, hit a tree when trying to escape, and then tried to run away from the scene. According to CSPD, around 10:15 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16, Downtown Area Response Team (DART) officers spotted a truck with two people inside of it in the area of Chestnut Street and Fillmore Avenue. The driver, identified as Dante Cedillo, tried to drive away from officers but hit a tree stump, which made the truck inoperable. Cedillo then tried to run away and left the passenger, who was described as a woman, in the truck. Officers used 'less lethal' projectile tool on Cedillo, however when that was deemed ineffective, a tazer was used. Cedillo was taken to the hospital for injuries sustained when he was hit with the projectile and when hitting a retaining wall while he was running. Cedillo was then booked into the Criminal Justice Center for theft. The passenger was released.
