CHARLOTTE, N.C. – One person died and another was seriously injured following a suspected drunken crash in Steele Creek early Wednesday morning.
It happened just before 3 a.m. on Archdale Drive. When officers arrived, they located a black Toyota Tacoma with heavy front-end damage against a tree.
Medic transported two people from the scene with life-threatening injuries. Shortly after arriving, the passenger in the Tacoma, 22-year-old Ever Castillo-Guardado, died from his injuries in the crash.
The Toyota driver remains in critical condition, CMPD said.
The preliminary investigation indicated that the Toyota was traveling northeast on Archdale Drive when it veered off the left side of the road and struck a tree, police said. Neither occupant was wearing seatbelts.
Police said speed and impairment are contributing factors in the crash.
This incident is still under an active investigation.
