SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) - Ashley Ridge and Summerville High School's may be separated by less than six and a half miles. "Were obviously expecting their best effort. And we got to be prepared, they do a lot and they're good at it," said Green Wave Head Coach Ian Rafferty. But they are miles apart when it comes to history and tradition. "If you talk about areas of the state, people will choose multiple teams that they say is the best. In the midlands they might choose a couple of teams, but when you get to the low state, they choose but one team, that's Summerville," Swamp Foxes Head Coach Jeff Tate said. The Green Waves 12 state titles won't mean a thing when these two square off tomorrow night. With both entering at 2-0 in the region, there's a lot riding on the outcome. "You win games, you get the good spots, you get the home games if you win all these region games," Green Wave senior defensive lineman Yasir Smith said. "So, we don't to have to hop on a ride and take a 45-minute ride, we want to be able to win all these games in region and play in our home and have a good atmosphere," Just in his second year with the Foxes, Coach Tate has won state titles at his previous stops. "What you usually find out in big games is who can run the ball, and who can stop the run, and who doesn't turn it over." With the differences, AR and The Ville do have something in common, both offenses can put a dent in scoreboards. "They just make it hard on you to really hone in and get defenses called in because they go so fast. But since [Tate] has been there, they haven't had any problems moving the ball or scoring points," said Rafferty. In a game of this magnitude, whichever side can keep their poise usually comes out on top, both clubs feeling their own pressure to perform on Friday. "We just have to have the same mindset for Fort, be focused on that team, and that team only. And once we step on the field do our jobs," said Swamp Foxes senior wide receiver Bam Deweese, "We handle it very great; we know that it's going to be a good game this Friday coming up. And we know that everybody's going to want our best shot we just have to go out there and execute every play," Green Wave senior tight end Keshon Washington exclaimed. Summerville has long stood on top of the mountain in the Lowcountry. Their nearby neighbor is trying to knock them off their perch in this Dorchester County showdown. "It's like comparing a lion to a tiger. Both top house schools in the Lowcountry. Every year we always dog fight it out. This year we want to take the win," said Swamp Foxes senior running back Jayden Acosta.
