BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- KGET is set to present the candidates running for the Kern County Board of Supervisors District 5 race as they discuss and answer questions about the issues that matter most to voters. The program is scheduled to air tonight at 7 p.m. on KGET and stream on this page. The incumbent, Supervisor Leticia Perez has declined KGET's invitation. Perez is running for re-election to the seat against challenger Kim Salas. WATCH: Kern County Board of Supervisors District 2 debate Perez has been the District 5 supervisor since 2013 and is running for a fourth term. In a candidate profile last month, Perez said "great schools, safe parks and good jobs" are her focus and would continue to be if she is re-elected to the seat. You can watch a full interview with Perez at this link. Kim Salas is a newcomer as a candidate, but Salas is familiar and experienced in Kern County. Salas has worked behind the scenes in politics, previously working for former Kern County supervisor Michael Rubio, former state senator Dean Florez and current Assemblymember Dr. Jasmeet Bains.
