BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- If you were out and about in Bakersfield Wednesday night you most likely saw the Hunter's Supermoon. The first full moon in October is called the "Hunter's moon" because it traditionally gave hunters the best nighttime light to catch their prey. A supermoon occurs when the moon is at its perigee and at its closest point to Earth in its orbit. The moon appears about 14% larger and is 30% brighter, according to NASA.
