AUSTIN (KXAN) — Georgia played the loudest college football game in history last season at Neyland Stadium against the Tennessee Volunteers, with decibel levels reaching 137. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian hopes Longhorn Nation can pump the noise even higher when the Bulldogs come to town Saturday. Sarkisian said in Thursday's media availability that home-field advantage at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium is "a huge component" and he hopes that with a new sound record comes another victory on the 40 Acres from the Longhorns. Handling emotions: How the Longhorns stay composed During his tenure, the Longhorns are 19-4 at DKR with the last home loss coming to TCU in 2022 17-10. With new investments in stadium operations, the overall fan experience, plus the improvement in the on-field product, DKR gets pretty wild these days. "Through four years, DKR has created an environment that has become intimidating and loud. Our students do a fantastic job," he said. "But we'll need more than our students. We're going to need everybody in this ballgame. It should be a rocking environment and we need to make it as difficult as we can on Georgia and I think our fans can do that." Sarkisian said he has heard DKR "really loud" in 2022 against Alabama during the Longhorns' 20-19 loss and at the end of last season's Kansas State game, a 33-30 overtime win. He wants Saturday to make those games feel like they were played in a library, relatively speaking of course. Dynamic Georgia offense poses big threats, will serve as toughest test to date for Texas "My goal is for it to be that loud for all four quarters," Sarkisian said. "I want someone in the press conference after the game to tell me that we broke the record that Tennessee set against Georgia last year." The noise in Knoxville didn't bother last year's Georgia team. They beat the Vols 38-10 and finished No. 6 in the final College Football Playoff committee rankings after winning two consecutive titles. In the same timeframe the Longhorns have put together their impressive home record, Georgia has been even better away from Sanford Stadium. The Bulldogs are 13-1 in true road games and improve to 25-3 when neutral site games are added. Texas went there and won last season, topping the Tide 34-24. Injury report: Bond upgraded When Texas' initial injury report came out Wednesday, Sarkisian had wide receiver Isaiah Bond listed as questionable to play Saturday. He'll be upgraded to probable once the Thursday update is posted, Sarkisian said. He suffered an ankle injury early in the Red River Rivalry and missed most of it. On Monday, Sarkisian said he was "optimistic" about Bond's chances of playing Saturday and felt better about his prognosis than he did immediately after the game. Bond is the Longhorns' leading receiver with 369 yards on 21 catches with three touchdowns. Offensive lineman Trevor Goosby has been ruled out along with defensive back Derek Williams Jr. Sarkisian said Monday that Williams will need surgery to repair his injury and will be out for the rest of the season. Running backs CJ Baxter and Christian Clark suffered season-ending injuries in training camp while Velton Gardner is also out for this week.
