ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A demonstration plant will be constructed at the Sabin Metal facility outside of Rochester. This plant comes from a partnership between metal company Sabin Metal Corporation and Travertine Technologies, a company scaling a process for carbon-negative, minimal waste critical element production. The Travertine Process demo plant will conduct three operations to convert gypsum and carbon dioxide into sulfuric acid, green hydrogen, and calcium carbonate. The process will supply fossil-free sulfuric acid for Sabin Metal. Engineering for the plant is underway and commissioning is anticipated for sometime in 2025. News 8 has reached out to Sabin Metal Corporation for more information.
