SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The San Diego Wave FC lost 1-0 to Mexico’s Club America Wednesday. Both teams are advancing to the semifinals, but it was the turf that was the talk of the tailgate.   Wave fans gathered to cheer on their team in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, while also pointing out the pitch has holes, divots and sand. “There's a lot of concern, especially for people who come to every game, that a player could get hurt,” said Corinne Bonine, a longtime Wave fan. Proposed housing development fuels controversy among Point Loma neighbors Fans are now looking for field administrators to make a change to the turf and quickly. “It’s gotten way worse as times gone on,” another fan told FOX 5/KUSI. With SDSU football, Wave soccer, Legion Rugby, and the new MLS team starting in just months, fans worry the turf needs to be ready to handle all the traffic. FOX 5/KUSI reached out to field administrators, but did not hear back at the time of publication. Sources close to the stadium say fixing the field is top of mind and plans are in the works. “It’s a premier stadium, we need to have premier turf,” said Jeff Bonine, another Wave fan.
