SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A Springfield man was found guilty during a jury trial in connection with a 2021 child sexual assault case. In a news release from the Hampden District Attorney's Office, 59-year-old Hamid Hallums was on trial in Superior Court for alleged sexual assault of a minor. The victim came forward on May 12, 2021, in a police report stating a sexual assault occurred two weeks before. Springfield city officials working to reduce illegal dumping During the investigation, police arrested Hallums for two counts of rape and four counts of indecent assault and battery on a person over 14 years old. After a 4-day trial, on Monday the jury found Hallums guilty and is scheduled to be sentenced on October 21st. "This conviction represents a crucial step toward justice for the victim and the victim’s family, who have shown remarkable strength throughout this process. I thank the dedicated law enforcement officers and investigators who assisted with this case; in particular, Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Vasiliades, who prosecuted the case, Victim Witness Advocate Danielle Hultgren, and Detective Gloria Guerrero of the Springfield Police Department for their hard work and dedication to the interests of the victim and the ends of justice," said Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni.
