HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) -- The Hopewell Police Department is investigating a homicide after a man died following a Sept. 22 shooting on High Avenue. According to police, on Wednesday, Oct. 9, Michael Gholson, 63, of Hopewell, died due to his injuries from a shooting on High Avenue on Sunday, Sept. 22. At around midnight on Sept. 22, officers responded to the 1200 block of High Avenue for the report of multiple shots fired. When they arrived on scene, officers found shell casings in the road. According to officials, while responding to the scene, police were notified that a male subject walked into the emergency room with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Police said that immediately following that call, officers were also dispatched to the 200 block of East Broadway for the report of a male subject lying in the hallway with a gunshot wound not considered life-threatening. Emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the scene on East Broadway and the victim was transported to an area hospital for further treatment. Police determined that the two men, identified as Gholson and 67-year-old Reginald Wyche, of Hopewell, were both victims in the High Avenue shooting.
