MASSACHUSETTS, (WLNE) — As fall has hit New England, The Massachusetts State Fire Marshal has released fire safety prevention tips. MA State Fire Marshal Jon Davine spoke with ABC6 about prevention, after more than 6,000 home-heating related equipment fires in the Bay State over the past five years. Space heaters, he said, are a big culprit and they should be kept at least three feet away from anything that can burn. Davine said carbon monoxide calls are more common as home heating appliances are turned. Making sure you have alarms on every level is key, he added. He also emphasized making sure the house number is visible so firefighters can respond to calls for CO alarms. Davine also said to make sure that the furnace is maintained, and the chimney is cleaned ahead of winter weather. More information on fire prevention can be found here.  Categories: News
