PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — President Joe Biden surprised a Pawtucket Kindergarten school teacher with the news that her student loans would be forgiven. In a video, posted by the White House, Kelly Bickford is told by President Biden that $46,000 of her student loans would be forgiven. “Nice to meet you. By the way, you’re $46,000 richer. I just forgave your debt,” Biden said in the video. According to Bickford, she’s a first-generation college student and has been paying her student loans for 12 years. Bickford said she applied to get a Public Service Loan Forgiveness before she got this surprise visit.. In the video, Bickford called her husband on the phone and, the president told him the good news. According to the White House, Bickford is one of the 3,190 borrowers in Rhode Island who has had her student debt cancelled through Public Service Loan Forgiveness under the Biden-Harris Administration.
