Arrest made in Seabrook neighborhood homicide

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department has made an arrest in a recent homicide investigation.
On Wednesday, Oct. 16, officers arrested 35-year-old Eric Christopher Gentris in connection to the shooting death of a woman in the Seabrook neighborhood.

According to officers, at 7:15 p.m. they were called to the 6200 block of Bridgehampton Drive on a report of shots fired in the area.

Upon arrival, they found the unidentified woman unresponsive suffering from a gunshot wound. She was declared dead on the scene by EMS and the investigation was classified as a homicide.
Through an investigation, detectives identified Gentris as a suspect in the case. Officers said Gentris and the victim were allegedly involved in a domestic dispute when he pulled out a gun and shot the woman.
An arrest warrant was issued. Officers were also alerted that Gentris was possibly armed and in possession of his 4-year-old daughter.
In the beginning hours of the investigation, Gentris' vehicle was found and after a multi-parish police chase, he was arrested and taken into custody at 11:30 p.m.

During a search, his daughter was found along with a firearm.
Gentris was booked by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office as a fugitive. Once extradited to New Orleans he will face a charge of second-degree murder.
The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will release the woman;s identity after an autopsy id sone and the family is notified.
