NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Halloween is just two weeks away, but the scary fun has already begun. This weekend features a music festival devoted to funk, trick-or-treating thrills for the little ones, and a monster-mash-themed ball. Here are Where Y’at’s picks: First, the NOLA Funk Festival hosts Big Freedia, Bobby Rush, and more at the New Orleans Jazz Museum starting Oct. 18. The highlight features Geo Leo: as George Porter Jr. and Leo Nocentelli play the music of the Meters. Great food, educative symposiums, and a new museum exhibit are all on the agenda. Next, the 49th annual Andouille Festival happens Friday, Oct. 18, Saturday, Oct. 19 and Sunday, Oct. 20 at the St. John Community Center in LaPlace. This festival will feature local food vendors, kids’ tents, carnival rides, and a main stage with bands performing zydeco, funk, rock, and more. Looking for a spot to take the little ones trick-or-treating? The Boo Carré Halloween Haunt at the French Market will take place on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 19. This free event will allow kids to trick or treat and enjoy performances from Becky Lynn Blanca & the Sweety Pies and others. Finally, get ready to dance the night away. On Saturday night, Oct. 19 following the Krewe of Boo’s Halloween parade is the Krewe of Boo Monster Mash at Generations Hall: a masquerade with live entertainment from Flow Tribe, a costume contest, and more.
