MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A Germantown Police Officer was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence after he allegedly crashed his car while intoxicated on Tuesday. According to reports, just before 5 p.m., a Germantown Police Officer watched a car driving over the speed limit down Poplar Avenue crash into another vehicle in the area. The driver of the car was identified as Lowell Young, an off-duty Germantown Police Officer, who has now been charged with DUI, Refusal to Submit to BAC, Reckless Driving, Possession of a Weapon While Intoxicated, Open Container, Expired License Plate, Public Intoxication, and Following too Closely. 📡 See more breaking news, local news and weather from WREG.com for Memphis and the Mid-South. 📧 Sign up for WREG newsletters and have the latest top stories sent right to your inbox. Young has been an employee of the Germantown Police Department for 18 years and has been suspended without pay until an investigation into the matter is completed, police say. He has since been released from jail on a $5,000 bond. The police department said no one was injured in the crash, and they are aware of crashes under investigation in Collierville that are reportedly related to the DUI incident involving Young.
