CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The two are clearly related, but to understand twins,  Dr. Lauren Lockhart and Dr. Lindsey Salone, you first have to know where they come from. The “Twintists,” are daughters of a physician and nurse and younger sisters to a dental hygienist — all hailing from Charlotte. Dr. Salone, a general cosmetic dentist explains the personal importance of positive role models, “being in health care was always routed to us. You know, we had a great exposure to the health care field at an early age.” Dr. Lockhart, an orthodontist says despite their lives mirroring each other, they are individuals. “I just want to, you know, let everybody know twins are not the same person.” “That’s right. We still have our own identity,” affirms Salone. Still it’s clear they work best together. It’s most evident at their business Dual Image Dentistry and Orthodontics, operating at three practices in Charlotte. The Twintists have racked up more than 130 thousand followers on their social media pages but say they are more proud of acting as role models for those thinking of getting into the field. “I always like to say, if you can see it, you can be it. And that is the problem with a lot of young people. They’re not seeing it. So, you know, they may not know that it’s possible if they haven’t seen anyone else do it. And it doesn’t necessarily have to be in the family, but maybe they’ve never seen they’ve never gone to a black doctor or a black dentist. So they don’t know that it’s possible for a black person to do that,” says Lockhart.
