COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Law enforcement will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in Colleton County this week as they work to lower the number of traffic-related deaths in the state. South Carolina Department of Public Safety data shows that the Palmetto State recorded 809 traffic-related fatalities in 2023. As of October 1, that number for this year is at 738. Traffic safety checkpoints will be set up on Green Pond Highway and Jacksonboro Road on Friday evening with help from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Network. The Colleton County Sheriff's Office said the locations were chosen based on recent traffic incidents. Deputies will conduct driver’s license checks, driver impairment, and ensure the proper use of child safety restraints. They will also address any other violations. “Safety is no accident. Follow traffic rules and save your own or someone else’s future,” the sheriff’s office said. Drivers are asked to use caution and obey law enforcement directing traffic.
