by Kelsey Penrose Carson City School Board candidate Ashliee Saucedo has announced she no longer wishes to run. In a story first broken by the Nevada Appeal and confirmed by Saucedo herself, she said she wishes to focus on her business. However, the issue is that if a candidate wishes to be dropped by the ballot, they had to do so by the deadline, which was back in March. Saucedo participated in the Sierra Nevada Forums with other candidates last week at the Brewery Arts Center, during which she said she is the mother of a six-year-old student enrolled in the school district, which prompted her to become more involved. Saucedo told the Appeal she is sorry for "taking up space" on the ballot, and asked voters to vote for her opponent Mike Walker, who is a "really great candidate and has been doing this for a while." Walker is a previous teacher for the district and has served two terms with the school board, and is running for re-election. A ballot correction notice had to be mailed out a few weeks ago after the spelling of Saucedo's first name was incorrect. It is not known at this time if Saucedo's decision to withdraw after the deadline will be announced to voters through the Carson City Election's Department. In theory, if Saucedo wins the vote, she could still very well end up as the selected candidate, and would either have to choose to go ahead and serve, or resign. If a formal notice is issued, we'll update with any new information. Keep tuned for ongoing election coverage with Carson Now.
