CENTER, ND (KXNET) — The Bismarck Larks named their Kid of the Year, and it's an 11-year-old from Center. Kamri Kitzmann donated $800 with her "Bow-lieve in Maren" fundraiser to an infant who needed a liver transplant. On October 22, Kamri will be getting a $1,000 scholarship to her 529 College Savings account at the Bank of North Dakota from MSDU Resources Group, Inc. "She's just a baby who is not even a year old. The family had already dealt with someone else who needed surgery, so we decided to help," Kamri explained. "The plan was to sell bows to raise money and help pay for the liver transplant." Keep spooky season safe for pets The woman who nominated Kamri, Lisa Gusewell, said the fundraiser left her with a strong impression. "Imagine a young girl, not yet in her teens, orchestrating a fundraiser with the heart and skill of a seasoned philanthropist. The 'Bow-lieve in Maren' initiative wasn't just a fundraiser; it was a call to action. It was a movement that Kamri helped to lead with passion and empathy," Gusewell said. "Her efforts to aid Maren Staigle, an infant with biliary atresia, were nothing short of heroic. Rallying her community to buy and wear bows, she and her friends raised over $800 — a monumental achievement that shows her ability to dream big, and make those dreams a reality." This isn't Kamri's only achievement — she's also been a leader on the dancer and athletic on the basketball and volleyball courts. She has even started writing her own book, with 85 pages and counting. If you want to nominate a kid for a 2024 Kid of the Month, you can do that here. Close Thanks for signing up!
