Two men have been arrested in upstate New York as part of an investigation into the fatal shooting of a man at a Connecticut hotel earlier this week, officials said Thursday.
Moises Alejandro Candollo-Urbaneja, 22, and Gregory Marlyn Galindez-Trias, 24, were taken into custody by police in Rensselaer, just outside Albany, after authorities found “personal belongings” of the victim in their possession.
They are being held on a $2 million bond for possession of stolen property in New York as well as on a Stamford warrant for first-degree larceny in connection with the theft of the victim’s vehicle following the homicide, the Stamford Police Department announced in a Thursday morning investigation update.
Police responded to a report of a shooting at a Super 8 Hotel on Grenhart Rd. just after 10:30 a.m. on Monday.
When first responders arrived at the scene, they located a “male victim who had sustained a gunshot wound,” authorities said. The man, later identified as 59-year-old Angel Samaniego, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Stamford Police.
An autopsy performed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later confirmed Samaniego died of a gunshot wound, Capt. Thomas Scanlon and Lt. Douglas Deiso, with the Bureau of Criminal Investigations, said in a news release.
Medical examiners also ruled the death a homicide.
The shooting remains under investigation by the Stamford Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Sgt. Luis Serna at 203-977-4417. Those who wish to remain anonymous can text the word “StamfordPD” and the tip information to 847411.
Candollo-Urbaneja and Galindez-Trias are expected to appear in court on Thursday.
