Two Men Pronounced Dead after Two-Car Accident near Chatsworth Street LOS ANGELES, CA (October 17, 2024) – Virgilio Cunanan and Darius Canuto died late Tuesday night, in a two-car crash at the 10700 block of Tampa Avenue. Police officers received dispatch calls at approximately 11:15 p.m., just south of Chatsworth Street. According to the preliminary investigation, the driver of a northbound gray BMW collided with a white Toyota that was in the process of turning left onto Atlanta Avenue. The crash left the two occupants of the Toyota trapped and resulted in fatal injuries. On Thursday, the Department of Medical Examiner identified the victims as Canuto, 68, and Cunanan, 56. Meanwhile, paramedics transported the BMW driver, a 20-year-old man, to a nearby hospital to treat non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the accident. Los Angeles officials closed Tampa Avenue, which was reopened around 4:30 a.m. the following day.
