PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — After a disastrous community meeting last Friday, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation is holding another meeting today to hear input from community members on the Washington Bridge demolition. With demolition resuming earlier this week, and additional work set to start this weekend, this will be a chance for residents living on either side of the bridge to get their concerns addressed. Since demolition began, residents on either side of the bridge have complained about excessive noise from the jackhammering, and homes covered in dust and debris from work. The previous meeting was supposed to give community members a chance to ask questions, but didn’t turn out how it was expected. The meeting is scheduled to take place tonight at 6 p.m., with officials saying they will answer community member questions in real time. The meeting also comes after state officials announced more than $95.6 million in federal funding. Combined with a previous mega grant, Rhode Island now has nearly $221 million federal dollars to replace the westbound side of the bridge. The demolition of the westbound side could take until at least February to finish. To sign up for tonight’s meeting, you can visit the link here. Categories: News
