JEFFERSON PARISH (WGNO) — The votes came after Inspector General Kim Chatelain publicly criticized the plan, laying out how the council put the parish in a vulnerable position if the brewery fails. That criticism led Councilwoman Jennifer Van Vrancken to propose a resolution to freeze the funding. Former New Orleans inspector pleads not guilty in federal fraud case "I don't think it's right as a government to move into a public building using public money to house two private businesses and the money doesn't come back to the parish," said Van Vrancken. The rest of the council refused to pass Van Vrancken's resolution. In the resolution to investigate the Inspector General, Kim Chatelain, the council complained that she did not interview anyone connected to the project before coming out against it. "You have to watch the watchdogs and while they have a responsibility to watch us, the inspector general. We have a reciprocal responsibility to make sure that office is not abused or used for political purposes," said Councilman Arita Bohannan. Van Vranken however believes that councilmembers who want to investigate Chatelain are taking an unnecessary step against her. Report by inspector general reveals safety hazards made by DPW "It's another waste of taxpayer money because every member of this council can for free express their concerns to the ethics and compliance commissions without hiring a lawyer," Van Vrancken said. The council also plans to ask the law firm to investigate Chatelain's relationship with Van Vrancken since the two seem to have joined sides. "Let's just hope they don't find anything, but if they do and I know about it; you can be assured I know my obligation as a member of the bar and anyone involved will be reported," Bohannan said.
