The islands are currently experiencing dry and stable conditions. This means we can expect continued dry trade winds this evening, with limited clouds and a few isolated showers mostly on the windward sides of the islands. A weak high is present as a low-pressure system moves northwest about 450 miles northeast of Hilo, bringing an area of moisture toward the state. Over the next few days, this will lead to cloudier skies, lighter winds, higher humidity, and more frequent showers from early Thursday to Saturday morning for Hawaii Island and Maui. The proximity of this low-pressure system is likely to increase overnight rainfall, especially in the windward areas of the Big Island and Maui. As the moisture continues moving across the islands through Friday, expect thicker clouds and more showers statewide. A large high-pressure system located about 1,500 miles northeast of Hawaii will move further away, weakening the trade winds to lighter speeds from Thursday to Friday. This will allow for localized sea breezes and mountain winds, leading to more cloud formation in the afternoons. After this weekend, a stronger high-pressure system will build in, which will strengthen the trade winds again by early next week. As drier air moves in, rain chances will decrease. Next week, we can expect a repeating pattern with occasional moisture in the trade winds, leading to daily showers, particularly on the windward and higher terrain areas.
