Firefighters battle Bladensburg house fire; 1 dog dead

BLADENSBURG, Md. (DC News Now) -- The Prince George's County Fire and EMS Department (PGFD) said crews were battling a house fire that displaced two people Wednesday night.

Firefighters headed to the 5500 block of Newton Street in Bladensburg after receiving reports of a house fire at around 8:11 p.m.
There, they saw flames coming from a multi-family home.

By 9:36 p.m., PGFD said in a post on X that the fire was out and there were no injuries but one dog died.
Officials told DC News Now that a gun was recovered from the building but so far, does not believe it is connected to the fire.
Fire investigators are trying to figure out what caused the fire.
