NEW MEXICO (KRQE) –  Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham's controversial public health order on guns has expired and will not be renewed. The public health order restricting guns expired last Saturday and Governor Lujan Grisham said there's no plan to renew it because she hopes the legislature will pass stronger public safety laws. Drafted New Mexico bill aims to change guidelines on how board grants parole The governor first issued the public health order in September 2023 after the shooting of an 11-year-old boy at Isotopes Park. An amended version of the order banned guns in public parks and playgrounds. The governor touted that significant strides were made to reduce gun violence in the state. She said more than 1,700 guns have been collected through gun buybacks.
