ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – For a second consecutive year, expectations in the Mountain West suggest that the Lobo women's basketball team will be middle of the pack. Like last season, UNM was picked 6th in the preseason poll and, like last season, UNM is looking to turn some heads. "I don't know the last time we [didn't finish] in the top 3. So, you know, I really don't care what they think," said head coach Mike Bradbury. While UNM lost plenty of key pieces from last year, the team is confident that between its additions and returning players, the sustained success can continue. Bradbury said that while the team's overall athleticism may be down, his team's size and ability to shoot from the perimeter. One returning player who is expected to play a crucial role in the team's success is senior guard Vianè Cumber. The Albuquerque native was one of ten players in the conference selected to the the All-Mountain West preseason team. Last season, Cumber averaged 11.4 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.
