(Courtesy of City of Victorville) Victorville City Councilmember Blanca Azucena Gomez was convicted by a Rancho Cucamonga jury on Tuesday, Oct. 15, for disrupting council meetings. The incidents occurred in July 2021 and February 2023 and the charges stemming from them were tried together, San Bernardino County District Attorney Jason Anderson said Wednesday. “We’re glad to get this to finality,” Anderson said. “We’re very happy with the results.” Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 15. Gomez faces two years in county jail if she receives the maximum penalty for four misdemeanor counts — the jury convicted her on two counts of disturbance of a public meeting and two counts of resisting arrest. Gomez appears twice on the Nov. 5 ballot. She seeks both the open San Bernardino County Assessor-Recorder seat and a third four-year term on the Victorville City Council. In March, she ran unsuccessfully for the state Senate District 23 seat. Gomez could not be reached for comment Wednesday afternoon. On July 7, 2021, Gomez was arrested after she tried to prevent sheriff’s deputies from removing a masked man who was recording a Victorville City Council meeting on his cell phone. A year and a half later, on Feb. 21, 2023, she was again arrested after she attempted to speak as a member of the public during the public comment period at a Victorville council meeting about matters discussed during closed session. Items discussed in closed session concern legal or personnel matters and are exempt from public disclosure under California’s open meetings law, the Ralph M. Brown Act. She was previously arrested in 2018 for trespassing after she refused to leave an area of Hesperia City Hall off limits to the general public.
