VISALIA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Visalia police announced there is no threat to students after a suspect fled a crash onto the grounds of a local high school Wednesday afternoon.
Police say just after 3 p.m. they responded to Mineral King School after receiving reports of a shooter on campus.
Officers report a collision occurred near the campus where a suspect fled the scene and entered the school grounds. The school was placed on lockdown while police conducted their investigation.
CHP Visalia says the crash was a result of an incident reported to them of a vehicle driving recklessly on three wheels. The driver crashed on Highway 198 at the eastbound off-ramp to Lovers Lane.
Just before 4 p.m., the Police Department announced there was never an active shooter situation at the school and everyone was safe.
Investigators report the suspect who fled on campus has been taken into custody.
Police say they are working with school officials to coordinate student pick-up.
