WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Wichita Public Schools is making its meals more nutritious next school year. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is trying to align the food served to children with dietary guidelines for America. New guidelines say that starting in 2025, it will serve food with less sugar, and in 2027, it will serve food with less sodium. The new changes could impact how the manufacturer does business. How these Kansas towns got their unique names "If that food has a label in retail and it's the same label at schools, how much different is it going to taste? And are they going to have a stake in changing it that much or are they just not going to do K-12 anymore?" Adrea Katzenmeier, assistant director for nutrition services for USD 259, said. Katzenmeier said USD 259 is already talking to its food suppliers to get a feel of what their plans are to meet the USDA guidelines. Katzenmeier added their breakfast right now already meets the 2027 limits, and kids are not complaining about not having salt on the table.
