Two new restaurants will bring an eclectic mix of food to the area. Bagels and Co. will open its first suburban location in Ardmore at 43 Cricket Ave. on Oct. 17. As part of the grand opening, the first 100 visitors will receive a free bagel and cream cheese from 8-10 a.m. Meanwhile, The Jamaican Pattie Shop, known for its innovative twist on the traditional Jamaican beef patty, will officially open Oct. 19 inside the Vittles Food Hall at 801 Sproul St. in Chester. “We don’t do just traditional Jamaican patties. We do things that we call not normal,” said owner/operator Toni Lorraine Johnson. “So, like our South Philly patty has provolone, roast beef and broccoli rabe. We have a jerk Philly cheesesteak. We take all the things that Philly is known for, but we just put them in patties.” As a bonus, the Upper Darby native’s Dr. Brownies brand of vegan sweet treats will also be sold at The Jamaican Pattie Shop. “All all of our desserts are actually vegan,” said Johnson, who’s son Paul also helps run the business. “We actually have a lot of vegan items on our menu. We just finished our recipe for vegan oxtails. We are going to highlight that this weekend. We are very excited about it. You know, this is a flexitarian menu. We have a little bit for everybody.” The Jamaican Patty Shop will hold an opening celebration Oct. 19. She will be keeping her hand in that part as well as a catering business. “I wasn’t going to open the restaurant,” Johnson said. “I was like, ‘No, I just, I do not need to open to the public because I love the catering aspect.’ This is my fourth restaurant, so I’m really looking forward to allow more people to know who we are.” The Jamaican Pattie Shop is open Friday 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. “Having those, we call them adult hot pockets, is perfect for this time of year,” said Johson. “It’s a convenient handheld snack for football and beer season.” Bagels and Co.
