TOPEKA (KSNT) - State transportation officials are getting ready to shut down part of I-70 in Topeka for bridge construction work this month. The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) is planning to close the eastbound lanes of I-70 from Highway 75 to Highway 40 in Topeka, according to kandrive.gov. The westbound lanes will not be impacted by this project. Work crews will keep this part of the highway closed from 11 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27. Drivers can follow a posted detour route taking them through Topeka and back onto the highway. Detour instructions: Exit the highway at the MacVicar exit. Head south on Northwest MacVicar Avenue to Southwest Sixth Street. Drive east on Southwest Sixth Street to Southwest Topeka Boulevard. Turn south on Southwest Topeka Boulevard, taking it to Southwest 10th Avenue. Head east on Southwest 10th Avenue to I-70.
