ALMA (KSNT) - Local high school students are having a haunted fundraiser for their prom. This is the second year in a row that a group of Wabaunsee High School students are hosting their Headless Horseman Haunted Woods. These students are taking it on all by themselves to turn the woods behind Little Munchkins Pumpkin Patch into a spooky haunt. 27 News spoke to Wabaunsee High School senior Carson Reves, who talked about what they are changing in 2024. "Well this year we kind of changed up the path a little bit," Reves said. "We are going to kind of lower down the lights and decorations and just kind of make it more dark and more scary." NE Kansas businesses are feeling the heat this fall The students said they raised about $2,500 in 2023, which went towards prom meals and their dance location. The seniors are thrilled with the outpouring of support from parents and the community. "We really appreciate the help and support from the community and some of the parents that come out on Saturday and help set up and bring drinks," Reves told us. Scaring isn't the only thing these seniors get excited about. Their favorite part is being out here with their friends. "The best part of the whole trail is we are out here as a community raising money, helping each other out," Jude Meseke said. "It's a lot of fun; you're out here with your friends on a Saturday night. You know it gives us something to do, especially being from a small town. It's just fun being here with everybody having a good time." Where to trick or treat in NE Kansas, how to stay safe The opening night is from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19. It will also be open on Oct. 20. You can purchase tickets at the gate for $10. The Headless Horseman Haunted Woods is at Little Munchkins Pumpkin Patch located at 29583 Low Water North Road in Alma.
