SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) - Day three of the Leilani Simon murder trial continued Wednesday. Simon is accused of killing her 20-month-old son, Quinton. She allegedly beat him to death and threw away his body in a dumpster. Police later found his body in a landfill. A key witness in the case took the stand on day three — Danny Youngkin, Leilani Simon's ex-boyfriend. The state has argued that Simon's biggest priority in life at the time of Quinton's disappearance was her relationship with Youngkin. The couple lived together when the toddler went missing. Youngkin notably said he did not check on Quinton the morning of Oct. 5, 2022, when his mother reported him missing. The state alleges the 20-month-old was not in his bed that morning and that Leilani Simon killed him overnight. Complete trial coverage In other video evidence shown Wednesday, Leilani Simon was on the record with the FBI doubling down to agents that Youngkin did tell her he saw Quinton that morning. "I know I asked you if you looked, and it seemed like he got a little emotional in response to that question. What is it about that question in particular that makes you upset?" asked Assistant U.S. Attorney Tim Dean. "Just, I wish I looked. I don't know if it would have made a difference but I wish I looked," Youngkin testified. The court recessed for the day before the defense cross-examined him.
