ORLEANS, Mass. (WLNE) — The body of a great white shark washed up on Nauset Beach on Cape Cod Oct. 15. Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries Dr. Greg Skomal said seeing this great white wash ashore was “pretty rare.” He said when his crew started working with great white sharks from 2012 to 2014, they would see one or two sharks a year that washed ashore on the beach, but “haven’t really seen one since 2016.” Preliminary measurements suggest the shark is over 12-feet-long and weighs over 1,200 pounds. Due to its size, the great white had to be removed from the beach in a flat-bed tow truck. Dr. Skomal says a necropsy will determine the cause of the shark’s death.   Categories: Massachusetts, News
