SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A professional tennis tournament is coming to Sioux Falls. The first MarketBeat Open will start at Huether Family Match Pointe on Sunday. Tournament director Mark Vellek says the talent on display will be considerable. "It'll be 32 of the best singles players and 16 of the best doubles teams in the world coming to play," said Vellek, who serves as executive director of Huether Family Match Pointe. "Mark has done such a great job organizing," said Cindy Huether, who sits on the facility's board of directors. "I'm going to be volunteering. I have a group of volunteers that are kind of under me." Huether, who is the wife of former Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether, agrees that the level of play for this upcoming men's tournament will be substantial… and unique. Dust & smoke create ‘unhealthy’ air quality in KELOLAND "It's going to be a level that we've never seen in Sioux Falls before, in South Dakota before," Huether said. Players are competing in the tournament with a big potential prize on the line; the tournament serves as part of the qualifying process for a spot in next year's Australian Open for whomever is the singles champion in Sioux Falls. "It's exciting," Vellek said. "It's a lot of work, a lot of learning, a lot of pivoting and just kind of figuring things out, but no, it's exciting and to be able to bring an event like this to the community, people are so excited for the pros to be coming." Tickets are available at both marketbeatopen.com and by calling the Washington Pavilion's box office.
