INDIANAPOLIS — Serving over three decades in the State Legislature, 97-year-old Morris H. Mills passed away on Monday. According to an obituary from Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mills was born in West Newton, Ind. on September 25, 1927, and died on Monday at his home in Crawfordsville. Morris served two terms in the Indiana House of Representatives, equallingfour total years, the obituary said. He also served 28 years in the Indiana Senate, with a focus on issues in finance, education, agriculture and business. During this time, Morris was one of the first authors in the Indiana Legislature of the School Equalization formula, the LLC and co-sponsor of UNIGOV, according to his obituary. Some of Morris's additional accolades include: The main hallway that connects Indiana University's remodeled School of Medicine is named the Morris H. Mills Atrium, in honor of "...his hard work and support" Receiving the President's Medal of Excellence from IU Being the three-time recipient of the Sagamores of the Wabash Receiving the Charles W. Foreman award in Nashville, Tenn., due to the leadership, commitment and support he provided to the colleges and students of Independent Colleges of Indiana. In the obituary, Morris was regarded as an active leader of community organizations, highly involved in his church, a longtime member of both the Decatur Central and Ladoga Lions Clubs and a proud servant of his community, state and country. Morris is survived by a wife of 70 years, three sons, two brothers, a sister, a sister-in-law, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
