"Gusty trade winds, low relative humidity, and dry fuels will result in fire weather concerns through the afternoon across leeward sections of all islands today."
Hawaiian Electric announced their intention to shut off power to West Maui due to the fire risk.
They will activate the Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) at around 12 p.m. and shut off power to those areas with high exposure to wildfire risk.

“We sincerely apologize for the disruption. We have activated our PSPS program as a last line of defense to protect lives and reduce the risk of a wildfire,” said Jim Alberts, Hawaiian Electric senior vice president and chief operations officer. “We will continue to monitor conditions closely and restore power as soon as we can safely do so.”
The company said the shutoff could last all day and encouraged customers to prepare for the possibility of extended power outages.
Other islands could also have power shutoffs if immediate wildfire risks occur, HECO said in a news release.
