ST. GEORGE, S.C. (WCBD) - Westbrook Wellness Center is hosting its annual Breast Cancer Fundraiser this coming weekend, featuring small-town singer Dylan Carter from "The Voice" as co-host. Instead of performing on stage Carter is taking a seat by helping to bring a spin-off of NBC's hit show to South Carolina. "I’ve never done anything like this before, but I love it," explained Carter. Similar to the judges on The Voice, the St. George singer will join the judging panel for the local event along with three other well-known singers. "We’re going to have Stee. He was also on my season of The Voice. He turned four chairs as well and was on team John Legend. He’s from Beaufort, so South Carolina had two people on The Voice my season, and then the third judge is Warren Peay. He’s from Bamberg, and he was recently top eight on American Idol and then last but not least, we’re having Naomi Jewel Merchant, and she is a Nashville recording artist," said Carter. Out of the 15 contestants, Carter says he is looking for someone with experience and who knows how to use their voice. "I can’t believe I’m the one that’s helping them put this on. I’m the one that’s judging, but here I am," shared Carter. For the competition, 15 performers will sing in round one, and only the singers who turn four chairs will move to the second round, along with one audience "super save." The remaining contestants will perform in the second round and be ranked by the four coaches. A winner will be announced for the finale. "So, the winner is going to get two tickets to see Blake Shelton on tour next year as well as a cash prize. The second place is going to get two tickets to see Pink live in Columbia, and then third place is going to get two tickets to see Brett Young in Charleston," said Carter. The event filled with special musical performances also serves an important cause. "It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month and this is normally an annual breast cancer fundraiser. So, we have about four local women around St. George that are in need that are currently battling breast cancer and we’re hoping to raise some money for each of them and help them get through this," explained Carter who is also giving back by using his experience and what he learned on The Voice to help small-town singers like himself. "This is going to be so much exposure and a great experience for all the singers that are coming to sing for us, especially if they dream to be on a show like The Voice or American Idol one day," said Carter. As for what's next for Carter, "I’m going to start working on trying out for American Idol or The Voice again. I don’t know. I haven’t made up my mind," You can cheer the contestants on Friday, October 18th from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the Santee Conference Center. To purchase a ticket for the event click here.
