A suspect in a felony sex crime case is dead after a shooting involving Ada County Sheriff’s Office deputies Tuesday evening in Northwest Boise. The shooting took place at the Optimist Youth Sports Complex along West Hill Road, however, the incident was not related to any events, practices or games at the site. A spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, confirmed to the Idaho Statesman that deputies “fatally shot the suspect.” No deputies were injured and law enforcement did not believe there was any threat to public safety. The Sheriff’s Office said that at about 5:45 p.m., deputies were attempting to locate the sex-crime suspect, a man who was believed to be armed and had made suicidal statements. They found the suspect at the sports complex, and when he did not comply with commands and produced a handgun, two deputies fired their weapons and the suspect was struck. He was pronounced dead at the scene after deputies attempted life-saving measures. The deputies will be placed on administrative leave, per standard department policy in shootings.
