WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- Friends and loved ones are gathering in Washington, D.C., to honor the life of Ethel Kennedy. Kennedy died after she suffered complications related to a stroke on Oct. 10, according to her family. She is the wife of the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy and was known for her dedication to social justice and human rights. She left behind nine children, 34 grandchildren, 24 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Ethel Kennedy, social activist and wife of Robert F. Kennedy, has died On Oct. 14, Kennedy's family gathered at Our Lady of Victory, in Centerville, Massachusetts for her funeral. To continue honoring her legacy, a memorial service will be held in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday. As a result, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said several roads will be closed across the District on Oct. 16. The following streets will be posted as Emergency No Parking from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Rhode Island Avenue from Connecticut Avenue to 17th Street, NW M Street from Connecticut Avenue to 17th Street, NW Police said all vehicles parked in these zones will be ticketed and towed. Police said drivers can expect delays when traveling near the memorial service. "The Metropolitan Police Department and the D.C. Department of Transportation also wishes to remind motorists in the vicinity of this event to proceed with caution as increased pedestrian traffic can be anticipated," said police in a release.
