NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — New Bedford fire crews extinguished a fire yesterday on Nauset Street, right next to the train tracks.
According to officials, it happened around around 12:58 p.m. when fire crews received multiple 911 calls reporting a fire at the General Supply Co.
Upon arriving, crews reported a large volume of smoke and fire from one side of the building.
Crews were deployed to the interior of the building to investigate while other firefighters worked to get a water supply to the rear.
MA Coastal Railroad was notified that crews would be operating on the tracks.
The fire originated in brush and a large amount of “ordinary combustibles” were located on a loading dock, according to officials.
An encampment was also located nearby.
Crews determined the fire did not extend into the roof or building.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
