PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island's largest hospital group, Lifespan, officially rebranded as "Brown University Health" on Wednesday. The organization said the rebranding underscores its expanded partnership with Brown University, reinforcing its position as a leading health care provider. The rebrand also includes a refreshed digital presence featuring a new logo, a dedicated Brown Health website, branded shuttle buses, updated workstation screens, and new employee email addresses. The plans for the new name and logo were announced earlier this year as part of a larger transformation under President and CEO John Fernandez. BACKGROUND: Lifespan to officially change name to Brown Health in October “This is an ambitious, multiyear initiative aimed at a complete name transformation, with updated signage and branding elements on the horizon,” Lifespan spokesperson Jessica Wharton told 12 News in September. Ahead of the new fiscal year in October, the organization cut 20% of its executive positions, a move Fernandez said would streamline operations and save $6 million. Lifespan is the state's largest employer, with around 17,000 employees. It operates Rhode Island Hospital, as well as Miriam, Newport, and Bradley hospitals, and recently acquired Saint Anne's Hospital and Morton Hospital in southeastern Massachusetts.
