Florida's Amendment 4 sponsor sues DeSantis administration over threat to broadcasters

The group behind the amendment to protect abortion access in Florida filed a lawsuit Wednesday morning in federal court arguing that the DeSantis administration is attempting to silence political speech it doesn’t agree with. Floridians Protecting Freedom filed the complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida in Tallahassee in response to the Florida Department of Health’s Oct. 3 cease-and-desist letters sent to television stations running an ad from the Yes on 4 campaign. In the complaint, the organization contends that the health department’s letter threatening criminal charges against the broadcasters amounts to coercion and viewpoint discrimination in violation of the First Amendment’s protections for political speech.
