LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) —- Two-year-old Malani Dior Arose Desavieu was recently diagnosed with Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis, also known as FSGS. “It is kidney disease and she has the most aggressive level which is tip lesion,” her grandmother Katrina Buster explains. Right now, Malani is receiving treatment in Cincinnati. It is the closest place to Lexington that can properly treat her, which means Malani’s mother, Candaishia Searight, might have to uproot her life here in Lexington to move up to Cincinnati. “We do not here in Lexington have an infusion place for Malani,” Buster said. Candaishia hasn’t left Malani’s side, she quit her job to be at the hospital to care for her daughter full time, but the costs add up. “She’s very graceful with this, being her first child, and you can see the strength in her right now,” Buster said as she teared up talking about Candaishia. That strength has been passed down for generations and is evident in Malani. “She’s just amazing, Malani’s amazing, and I think the adults around her can learn a lot about resilience from her,” Buster said. “It’s a lot when you have people poking and prodding on you the whole time, and you’re not really sure why, and then I got to hear her cry out ‘no please stop.'” She adds that it’s hard to be away from home during all of this. Malani’s family has started a GoFundMe in hopes that people might hear her story, and be inspired to help out. You can click here to access that GoFundMe.
